Digital Pianos

To Buy a Digital Piano or an Acoustic Piano, That Is the Question!

Digital Pianos - Yamaha YDPV240To buy digital pianos or acoustic pianos, that is the question. After doing a lot of research the answer seems obvious to me that digital pianos are the best but it depends completely on the person that you are, what you want, what you need and how much money you are willing to spend. Read on to find out which type is the best for you, digital pianos or acoustic pianos.

What do you want?

Do you want to be able play musical pieces and hear the genuine acoustic piano sound? You may think that the only solution for this would be to buy an acoustic piano, but you may be surprised to hear that some digital pianos are capable of sounding pretty much exactly like an acoustic piano.

Yes it’s true that not all digital pianos sound like the real deal, but if you do your research correctly and test a few different models of digital pianos, you will be able to find a few digital pianos that have genuine, acoustic piano like, sound. For beginners of course, the quality of the sound may not be an issue, you may not even know the difference between both digital pianos and acoustic pianos.

Do you want a piano in your house that is an elegant piece of furniture? Again you may think that the only solution would be to get an acoustic piano since many digital pianos don’t look at all like a classic piano, digital pianos usually look more like a black piece of plastic with keys attached to them. I don’t mind myself, owning a plastic digital piano is not a problem for me. But I do understand those that would want something more elegant to enhance a room’s look.

Again you may be surprised to hear that some digital pianos are absolutely gorgeous and that I would never have guessed that they were digital if I hadn’t taken a closer look and seen the different buttons that give you access to all the digital aspects of the piano.

What do you need?

Do you need to be able to hear different types of sound, like violin or trumpet, instead of only the piano sound that you can usually hear from an acoustic piano? In this case, digital pianos are the answer because digital pianos can recreate many different types of sounds unlike the acoustic piano who only does one type, piano. If you want the variety of sounds, digital pianos are the way to go.

Do you need a piano to have fun with? To learn how to play? To play great complex symphonies? To fulfill your needs as an advanced player? To fulfill your needs as a beginner? Of course the answer to these questions are both acoustic and digital pianos will do a great job to fulfill all your needs, as long as you do you research and find the right one.

I would say that someone who plays great complex symphonies and that wants a piano for a more advanced player would get an acoustic piano, but some digital pianos can be great choices too for those players.

For someone who wants to have fun, learn and is a beginner, I would suggest the digital pianos for sure. The digital pianos would be my first choice because they are usually less expensive. If you are a beginner and want to try to learn how to play and to see if you will enjoy it you will want to spend a bit less on digital pianos, so if you decide that piano playing is not for you, at least you will not have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on an acoustic piano.

Digital Pianos - Williams OvertureThe digital pianos would also be my first choice because most of the digital pianos come with walk-through songs that you can follow along. It’s fun to learn a few songs this way and it’s actually pretty easy too (depending on the song of course!).

All in all, the secret to finding the best piano is to find out what you want, what you need and how much you are willing to spend. When you have all these answers, do you research and you will be able to find the best piano for you! If you want my personal advice though, I find that digital pianos are great for all types of players.
